After two years of development and a £1.2m Heritage Lottery grant the former Ebeneser Chapel opposite St. David’s Cathedral on Charles Street in Cardiff has finally opened its doors as the new community and arts venue for Cardiff … Cornerstone.
The diocese purchased the former chapel in 2012 and has worked extensively to preserve the heritage of this historic Cardiff building, whilst offering a new and exciting venue for the community and the arts. Cornerstone officially hosted its first event on Wednesday 19th October with 120 sitting in the Great Hall, Dewi Sant, for a three course meal and entertainment headlined by Welsh soprano Rebecca Evans. The event raised in excess of £8,000 for ‘Music in Hospitals’.
Cornerstone can accommodate events of all sizes from community groups and productions, to business meetings, conferences and weddings. The Great Hall Dewi Saint can seat 140 people or 220 theatre-style, whilst the Jane Hodge Hall can accommodate another 200 people. In addition there are a number of meeting rooms available for hire, and a cafe which will open to the public in the coming weeks.
